Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, Florida is searching for a new Upper School Athletic Director (AD) to serve approximately 800 students in grades 9-12, with additional responsibilities to coordinate athletic programs with the Middle School Athletic Director. Reporting to the Associate Director of Upper School/Dean of Students, the AD works closely with the Upper School Director and his senior staff to design and administer the school’s athletics program. The AD will also build inclusive programs that foster school spirit, help the school excel among the region’s athletics programs, and aid students in developing their skills and confidence in several arenas, athletic and otherwise. The AD will be responsible for hiring, supervising, and developing seasonal coaches; ensuring the preparation of facilities for school athletic events; modeling and promoting standards of balance, sportsmanship, and fair play; and managing the operating budget for the Athletics Department. The AD will also ensure compliance with FHSAA and school rules and procedures, schedule on- and off-campus practices and competitions, develop and support expectations for coaches and student-athletes, and promote the school and its athletics programs to families. The Director is an ambassador for the school, and thus represents the school at league meetings, conducts meetings with parents of student-athletes, maintains a safe and welcoming environment for home and away teams, and communicates scores and highlights to local media.

Qualified candidates should have experience coaching, and/or coordinating athletic logistics at the secondary or collegiate level. They must be able to problem solve, multitask, and communicate clearly in person and in writing, mentor coaches and serve as an advocate for scholar-athletes and coaches in collaboration with teachers and parents. Candidates also must be versatile, resourceful, and able to think creatively in shaping athletic programs that reflect the school’s mission and interdisciplinary approach to education. An advanced degree and experience building new programs are preferred, but not required.
